DOMINICIAN REPUBLIC YOUTH MISSION TRIP TEAM
Follow Our Youth Mission Trip’s Activities! A blog has been set up to give us updates of what they are experiencing in the Dominican Republic. Go to https://wspcdominicanrepublicmissiontrip.wordpress.com/.
Meet the Team! Each of our team along with their thoughts about the trip is profiled in a document available in the Welcome Center and on our website. Also, pick up some prayer bookmarks with pictures of each of our team members on the front and prayer concerns on the back.
ALL CHURCH PICNIC A HIT
Thank you to all the volunteers who helped make the All Church Picnic a big success and lots of fun! A special thank you to Bavarian Meats and West Coast Entertainment for their generous donations.
WEST SIDE SERVICE DAY – SATURDAY, AUGUST 19
In the Greater Seattle area, there are 156 church/school partnerships (30% of existing schools). On August 19 (9am-1pm), we head back to ours, Highland Park Elementary, to paint (thanks, Jeremy Keating and crew, for already painting their exterior doors!), support teachers, plant and clean. For more info or to volunteer, contact Lee Sundquist email@example.com.
Our ESL program outreach also starts at Highland Park this fall! It’s our investment in a school that truly needs our support and love.
Pray for the Pastor Nominating Committee as they begin their meetings: Katie Batts, Rick Boogaard, Jill Campbell, Sid Hoagland, John Jacobs, Josh Kutz, Dolores Latham, Hugh MacLean and Elaine McMinn.
SUMMER CLASSES @ 10:40am in Howell Auditorium
Today – Dr. Andy and Dorciane Toth, who have served in Mexico for almost 50 years, will update us on their work. Dorciane grew up at West Side. They now live in Texas but go back to the High Sierras in Mexico, at great risk, several times a year to train pastors and help establish churches among the Pame Indians.
July 23 – Dr. Tim and Muriel Teusink. After many years serving with SIM in Ethiopia, the Teusinks have recently moved to France to be more centrally located for frequent trips to do medical training for doctors in developing countries and to teach at medical conferences. Dr. Teusink is an expert on HIV/AIDS and pioneered teaching in Ethiopian Orthodox Church seminaries in HIV/AIDS prevention, a first for an evangelical.
July 30 – Our Dominican Republic Team of young people, just back from their mission trip working with Kids Alive and the Trautweins.
August 6 – Rick and Lorena Wood. Rick, a son of West Side, is the editor of Mission Frontiers, the magazine of Frontier Ventures (formerly the US Center for World Mission). Lorena ministers to Muslim women.
August 13 – Chitra Hanstad, Director of World Relief, will speak of their 70-year partnering with local churches to serve the world’s vulnerable through disaster relief, refugee support, and economic development.
August 20 – Bruce and Christy Graham. We haven’t seen them in four years! Bruce is the Senior Associate Director of Frontier Ventures in Pasadena. Christy heads the Personnel Office, overseeing 100+ staff.
August 27 – Susie Tucker Boer, Faith Heroines Alive. Susie portrays Corrie Ten Boom, the famous Dutch heroine of World War II and author of The Hiding Place. Her performances are always insightful and a delight!
September 3 – Dr. Larry and Dianne Burke, who spent many years with Wycliffe in Chad, will tell of their new ministry with the Seed Company, related to Wycliffe Bible Translators. Larry is a son of West Side.
