Garage Sale

Prayers, Knowing and Reflecting Jesus, Building Community… The Rest of the Story

We call it the Gigantic Garage Sale. Thousands of hours; hundreds of volunteers; large cash haul. In reality, that’s only part of the story.

Youth — The income from the sale funds our Youth Memorial Day Retreat. Attended by 80-90 West Siders and their friends, the retreat uses well-known musicians and speakers to make Jesus personal. It has transformed lives as youth understand the depth of love, the commitment required and the lifetime of joy that is knowing Jesus. Many first professions of faith have happened in the 39 years we have had the Retreat – and isn’t that our job… to make disciples for Jesus Christ?

Community, Inside & Out — Youth and adults in our church often meet for the first time when tasks overlap. Some regular worship attendees and members first experienced West Side as garage sale guests who felt the work of the Spirit among us. New helpers emerge each year from our congregation and West Seattle. And the community benefits, too. People in need have the opportunity to buy things at reduced prices; leftover items go towards the greater good when 8 to 10 non-profits use them to clothe the homeless, needy and for other community causes.

Prayers Are The Difference — Sure we want the Lord’s blessing of a huge financial success. But more importantly, we ask you to pray for

  • His direction over all activities next week
  • Strengthened relationships and new connections to each other and our West Seattle community
  • Opportunities to share Christ’s love
  • Health, safety and stamina for all of our volunteers
  • JOY in what we are doing for His glory!
