Announcements for Sunday, June 24

GUEST PREACHER: PHYLLIS SORTOR

Guest Preacher Sunday, June 24 at 10am – Reverend Phyllis Sortor is the remarkable minister among the Fulani nomadic cattle herders of Nigeria who was kidnapped in 2015 by Nigerian gangsters and survived beatings, trauma and abuse for two weeks until her release. Now back in Nigeria, she is using scientific methods to provide grass for the Fulani cattle so they won’t need to be in conflict with Nigerian farmers. She also set up training for Fulani women as primary health workers and established schools for hundreds of Fulani children with both Christian and Muslim teachers. She will be available after worship for a question and answer session and will have copies of her new book, The Kidnapping of an American Missionary.

CHECK OUT YOUR PICTURE

Today is the last day we are taking pictures for the church pictorial. Please check with Karol, who will be near the Welcome Center with a copy of the previously taken photos, to see if you approve of yours or if another one should be taken. You still may send in a jpeg of a good headshot to Karol@wspc.org.

FEELING PATRIOTIC?

Calling All Men to sing in the Men’s Chorus on Sunday, July 8. Please contact Anthony Spain AnthonyS@wspc.org for information.

FAMILY CELEBRATION OF SUMMER
Sunday July 1, 11am-2pm

Stay after Service and celebrate a summer Brunch-Nic at West Side! The menu will include pancakes with yummy toppings, hand-formed burgers, hot dogs and a variety of picnic sides! See the church transformed after the 10:00am Worship Service into our very own West Side park where we will welcome VBS families and friends.

Volunteers Needed – It takes a lot of people to put on a brunch-nic! If you are willing to help prepare food on Saturday or set up, serve food, supervise kids outside or clean up on Sunday (take your pick), please contact Madeline May (206-935-4477) or MadelineM@wspc.org.

FLOWER-BED BEAUTIFICATION

Thanks to all who weeded, raked and pruned yesterday, giving our flower beds a much needed facelift. Many hands make the work light, yet there is always more to be done. Adopt a bed to maintain on your own time! Contact Scott ScottM@wspc.org and get some details.

THANK YOU, JULIA!

Today is Julia Foote’s last day in our Nursery, where she has given her love and comfort to our wee ones and put parents at ease for the past 6 years. West Side is truly in her debt!

HELP WANTED FOR WELCOME CENTER

Volunteers needed for Tuesday afternoon (12:30–4:00pm), Wednesday morning (9:00am–12:30pm). Contact Lilliana Ryckman.

LET JUSTICE ROLL DOWN LIKE WATERS

Kids will be rafting down those waters at Rolling River Rampage Vacation Bible School (VBS) starting tomorrow! Join us in prayer as we all jump head first into the white water that is VBS.

  • Pray for the kids, that they will have fun and find Christ all around them.
  • Pray for the leaders, that they will have endurance, and that they will see God at work in the kids, other leaders, and themselves.
  • Pray for the whole event, that set up and decorations will go well, that everyone will stay safe, and that all will feel welcomed and loved.

ADULT SUNDAY EDUCATION @ 9AM

Note: All are invited to attend. There will be a play area in the corner of Howell for children beginning July 1.

Today: Jay and Nancy Adams, our missionaries to Black Forest Academy in Germany, lead the discussion on the last chapter in our study of the book of Romans.

July 1: Wheelchairs / Nigeria: Ron Rice will show the new video of his 26th trip to Nigeria in March. He and his partner Ayuba gave out 296 wheelchairs in 6 major presentations in 4 different states.

July 8: Video Presentation: King of Creation, a new film by the producers of Living Waters, Flight, and other spectacular Intelligent Design films we have shown in recent years. The film has breathtaking photography of the beauty of God’s creation, from hummingbirds to the wonders of the universe. Important verses from the Old and New Testaments together with favorite hymns accompany this stunning visual celebration of God’s handiwork.

July 15: Keith and Celia Olson, our missionaries to Japan. A young couple and both graduates of Regent Seminary in Vancouver, Keith and Celia are part of a new generation of OMF missionaries working in a culture highly resistant to the Christian faith.

July 22: West Side Youth / MOVE Conference – The 17 teenagers and 5 adults attending the Christ in Youth conference (MOVE) in Los Angeles will give their report.

July 29: Mike McLaughlin (Christian Medical Dental Association) updates us on his work with medical and dental students on Western campuses.

All are welcome to attend the 9:00am Adult Sunday School hour in Howell Auditorium.

Note to Parents On Today’s Message: Today’s sermon topic about a missionary’s life in Nigeria contains some stressful, frightening parts you may not wish your children to hear.
