West Side Renews City Serve Partnership,
Volunteers Needed August 18!
August 18, 2018 marks the third year West Side will participate in Union Gospel’s City Serve by doing service projects at Highland Park Elementary School (1012 SW Trenton Street). We promise great camaraderie and satisfaction to all those who volunteer to spend their morning sprucing up a school with one of the most diverse and financially insecure student bodies in the Seattle system. At Highland Park, approximately 45% of the students don’t speak English at home, over 11% are homeless and over 70% qualify for free lunch. Still, they receive a science-based education in a safe, affirming environment.
Their motto: Be Safe; Show Respect; Solve Problems.
How You Can Help
West Side participants will share the morning (9:00am—1:00pm) working alongside volunteers from Bethany Community Church West Seattle. Projects include:
- Interior cleaning of walls, windows, and upholstered items
- Renew emergency water containers in classrooms
- Exterior painting on play court wall and playground surfaces
- Play area and general grounds cleanup
All physical abilities can be accommodated.
Where To Sign-Up
A sign-up table will be available at our All Church picnic on July 1 and also after several worship services in late July and early August. You can also sign-up, ask questions, or talk about a specific assignment or idea you have by contacting Dick Ramsey, our coordinator (206-819-9337, RLRamz1@live.com)
Other Projects @ Highland Park in Development
We are also looking at other possible workdays to help teachers prepare their classrooms for the first day of school on September 5. Another opportunity for West Siders to use their time to help our community! More information will follow.
