Service Notes

Guest Speaker – Michael McLaughlin has been the Western Regional Director of Christian Medical and Dental Association since 1983 and is responsible for 15 western states. At CMDA, he also served concurrently as the Director of Campus and Community Ministries from 2002-2005 and 2009-2010. Raised in our West Side family, Michael graduated from Biola University and Western Seminary in Portland. He has served as youth director and preaching pastor in various churches and helped plant Grace Community Church in Gresham, Oregon. He and wife Linda have 2 children and 4 grandchildren.

Assisting in Worship – Bonnie Bennedsen is a retired community college counselor and serves as an elder.

$10 Mariners Tickets for Tuesday, July 31 Game!

West Side’s Children’s Ministry is making tickets available to the congregation for the 7:10 pm Seattle Mariners game against the Houston Astros. On the 300 level (1st base side), these tickets usually go for $24. Buy them from Shirley Tupper in the Welcome Center either before or after worship service today. Questions may also be directed to Shirley at 206-349-4480.

A Moment with Dr. Keith Tanis, 9:00am – Dr. Keith Tanis, our Bridge Pastor, takes the pulpit on August 5. Interested to know more about him? Come to the 9:00am class, where he will provide more details about himself and lead a Q&A session.

Worship Service and Communion – 10:00am – Our new Bridge Pastor, Keith Tanis, will continue our series on James with a message titled, “It’s Going to Rain!” To prepare, read and reflect on James 5:7-11 and think about what is trying your patience right now. What droughts, delays or disappointments are a challenge for you!

Fellowship Meal / New Member Introduction – All are welcome to join us for a meal after morning worship service and to meet our newest church family members when they are introduced by their sponsors.

Path from Poverty Harambee Gala

Help women and families from Kenya fulfill their talents and dreams. This year’s annual fundraising event is October 6, 6pm–9pm, at The Mountaineers and features an elegant dinner, live music, a silent auction and Kenyan Marketplace. City Serve Project Just Got Bigger

The project of inside cleaning @ Highland Park has expanded to 2 floors! We need more people to wash walls and doors, and railings on Saturday, August 18, 9-am–1pm. August 5: A Moment with Keith – Dr. Keith Tanis, our Bridge Pastor, shares about himself and answers questions we have.

August 12: Jacinta Tegman, President of World Concern, will describe their ministry of disaster relief and humanitarian Christian work. With a $40 million budget and a staff of 700, almost all local Christians, World Concern operates in 16 countries.

August 19: Dr. Larry and Dianne Burke will tell of their recent trip to Chad and Larry’s new assignment as Africa Director of Faith Comes By Hearing, a Wycliffe-related organization working with oral Bible translations for non-literary peoples.

August 26: Debbie and Tom Wood will update us on their work with iTEE Global using interactive Internet training for overseas pastors and Debbie’s recent teaching trip to Asia.

Celebrate Recovery Team Hope Hosts

Family BBQ, Movie Night Monday, August 6 – Celebrate Recovery is a Christ-centered approach for those seeking to heal from life’s hurts, habits and hang-ups. Hope Lutheran (4456 42nd Ave SW) is launching this ministry soon and invites any who would like a preview: 6:30pm – Dinner; 7:15pm – Sample Celebrate Recovery worship for adults and youth over 14; a kids movie for those under 14.
