Facts About Foster Care and Kids School Supply Drive
(Now Extended to August 26)

Licensed foster parents receive an allowance for basic living expenses for the child. A recent Coinstar survey revealed a majority of parents say school provisions and extracurricular activities (field trips, science projects, etc.) can run $151 – $600 per child. Most foster parents can’t cover those costs. That is why we have extended our school supply deadline to August 26. Please leave donations of new back backs and school supplies at the Welcome Center. Thank you!

Sunday Evening Worship / Meal – August 19, 5:00pm

Bring a friend to our evening worship service in Howell Auditorium and stay for food and fellowship afterwards. Our guest preacher is Mark Mohrlang, Pastor of the Sanctuary Church in Greenwood. We hope to see you here!

Community Meal Ministry Needs People to Continue

Many hands are needed to make this ministry go – cooks, greeters, servers, etc. But what used to take one email to our contact list to get the 13 needed volunteers each week now takes several. Susie Williams, our coordinator, spends hours calling as well. Is it summer vacations? Burn out? Don’t know, but we really need help for meals on August 25 and September 8. There are jobs for all abilities and the effort is so very rewarding. Please pray and if led, contact Sue Williams (SusieW@wspc.org) to help. Your prayers are also appreciated to get this special ministry running smoothly again.

Taxes Only Go So Far – 6 Days Until City Serve (8/18)

You pay taxes to support schools….then why clean up one, too? More prosperous schools have strong parent support who know how to access funds. Highland Park’s families are different: Nearly half do not speak English at home, over 11% are homeless; 37% of the kids need help with English skills, 72% of them qualify for free lunch. What we do on Saturday, August 18 can’t fix this, but at least it will help these kids begin the school year with a clean, safe, and welcoming facility.  Sign up with Dick Ramsey after worship today!

Sunday Education @ 9am in Howell Auditorium

All are invited. There is a play area in the corner of Howell for children.

Today: World Concern/CRISTA – Dave Curtiss, responsible for church partnerships with the seven ministries of CRISTA Seattle.

August 19: Dr. Larry and Dianne Burke will tell of their recent trip to Chad and Larry’s new assignment as Africa Director of Faith Comes By Hearing, a Wycliffe-related organization working with oral Bible translations for non-literary peoples.

August 26: Video Series: Walking with God in the Desert, a new set of films in That the World May Know series, will continue through September. We have used these outstanding films over the years as each new series has been released. Filmed in Israel, Egypt and South Sinai, renowned teacher and historian Ray Vander Laun illuminates the historical, geographical and cultural context of the land of the Bible and then draws spiritual application. Each film is self-contained, so be sure to come even if you have to miss a Sunday or two.
