A HOT MEAL, A NEW CONNECTION
Makeema spends precious money to get to West Side from downtown. Angel and his mother had an impromptu ESL lesson with Jessica Kutz, who is fluent in Spanish. People who live under the bridge and in West Seattle greenbelts come on bicycles and skateboards. Some saw our advertising and stopped by to donate coffee and toiletries. A member knits scarves and hats to give out; friends bake fabulous desserts. They are all part of the new community we are building through our meal ministry.
West Side started serving a hot lunch twice monthly in July, 2014. We now serve over 40 people with great diversity – seniors, homeless, single moms, some families. Most came initially for the food, but now they stay to talk and laugh.
WE SERVE EVERY OTHER SATURDAY
In need of a meal or maybe just companionship? Join us!
Saturdays: July 1, 15, 29
West Side is on bus routes 50, 55 and 128.
Volunteer! You will be amazed when you feel the blessing of this ministry. We need more people to cook, serve, bake, greet, sit at tables and talk, help with advertising, etc. Contact Lin Snavely (LinS@wspc.org; 935-4477) for more details.
