Foster Care – Back to School Drive

Thank you to all who contributed to West Side’s Back-to-School Supply Drive for Foster Children whether through items or monetary support. We were successful in collecting a large quantity of supplies including backpacks. Below are some numbers for a few of the items collected:

4 ½ dozen backpacks, 2 dozen lunch boxes, 2 dozen water bottles, 19 dozen ink pens, 48 dozen #2 pencils, 14 dozen colored pencils, 4 dozen boxes of crayons, 7 ½ dozen spiral notebooks, 7 dozen composition notebooks, 6 ¾ dozen pocket folders, 4 dozen pairs of scissors …

The items West Side collected were combined with supplies from Seattle First Free Methodist Church and New Life Church of Renton and on the weekend of September 8th the Department of Children Youth and Families (DCYF) and the Foster Support Faith Alliance, which West Side is a member, sponsored a Resource Fair. Foster Parents learned about free resources available to them, enjoyed raffles and giveaways. Children participated in activities – like park games, face painting, popcorn and a craft station. Parents and children had the chance to “shop” for free school supplies. There were literally thousands of school supplies. Families could get all of their class-mandated supplies, as well as backpacks, lunch boxes and water bottles – all thanks to the generosity of the church congregations who collected a TON of needed items! The Cross and Crown Church in Seattle hosted the craft activities for the children and provided all of the snacks.

All had a great time.
