Join us Sunday mornings (9am) during the month of January for the following classes:
January 6: Lectio Divina – Lectio Divina is an ancient Christian discipline dating back at least to the thirteenth century. In Latin it means “divine or sacred reading.” It leads us to pray through reading the Bible, helping us to listen attentively to a passage in order to open ourselves to what God might want to say to us. The practice involves listening to a text repeatedly and contemplating it in silence, trusting that God will meet us in Scripture and speak into our daily lives. (Led by Stacy Kutz)
January 13, 20: In Memoriam: Eugene Peterson – Framed around two excellent videos from The Navigators and Fuller Studio, this class will explore the life and work of the late Eugene Peterson. Peterson was the author of The Message idiomatic translation of the Bible (as well as dozens of other books), the pastor of a PCUSA congregation in Maryland for nearly 30 years, a professor of theology, and a noted theologian. He went to be with Christ in late October 2018.
The two videos are:
- Eugene Peterson: In Between the Man and the Message (Jan 13)
- Bono & Eugene Peterson: The Psalms (Jan 30)
January 27, February 3, 10: ReDiscover: The New Testament – Following up the fall Bible series on the Old Testament, join Pastor Laurie as we immerse ourselves in the story of the New Testament! New Year is a great time to rediscover the Story of Jesus (Gospels, Jan 27) — Story of the Church (Acts and Epistles, Feb 3) — and the Story’s End (Revelation, Feb 10).
