Sermon Series: First Impressions

Seeing Jesus for the first time again…Ever notice how many of the gospel stories involve people who meet Jesus for the first time? Epiphany is a season for discovery – a perfect time to see and hear Jesus anew through the first impressions captured in the gospel stories.

Next Sunday, January 13 – “House: Jesus meets Zacchaeus” – Luke 19:1-10

Rev. Dr. Laurie Brenner to be Installed
Monday, January 7, 2019, 7:00pm

The congregation is invited to participate in the installation of Dr. Laurie Brenner as the new Senior Pastor of West Side Presbyterian Church on Monday, January 7, 2019 at 7pm in our sanctuary. This service will be lead by Jesse Mabanglo, former WSPC Interim Associate and currently the moderator of Seattle Presbytery. George Hinman, Senior Pastor of University Presbyterian Church in Seattle will bring the message. Our former pastor, Paul Smith, will give the challenge or “charge” to our congregation for how God is calling us to support Laurie’s leadership among us! Several other leaders from our Presbytery will officiate. This special service provides an opportunity to witness how the whole Presbyterian Church (USA) functions as the Body of Christ to support member congregations like ours. Come and celebrate this milestone in the life of WSPC! Refreshments following!

Sunday Adult Education, 9:00am

Today – Lectio DivinaLectio Divina is an ancient Christian discipline dating back at least to the thirteenth century. In Latin it means “divine or sacred reading.” It leads us to pray through reading the Bible, helping us to listen attentively to a passage in order to open ourselves to what God might want to say to us. The practice involves listening to a text repeatedly and contemplating it in silence, trusting that God will meet us in Scripture and speak into our daily lives. (Led by Stacy Kutz) Class Location: Chapel

Coming Up:

  • In Memoriam: Eugene Peterson (Jan. 13, 20)
  • ReDiscover: The New Testament (Jan. 27, Feb. 3, 10)
