We at West Side Presbyterian of West Seattle are very glad that you are considering the possibility of visiting us and hope that your time with us will become invaluable to you. Here at West Side, we try to make sure the first thing you see when you walk through the doors is a smiling face ready to assist you and your family in whatever needs you may have.

When people are checking out a church, they deserve straight answers to important questions. We have tried to anticipate what a number of your questions may be regarding our church. Please do not hesitate to e-mail us if you have additional questions at


What kind of church are you?
West Side is Bible based, and Jesus is the central focus. We are members of the Presbyterian Church (USA) and are affiliated with The Fellowship Community.


When should we arrive?
15–20 minutes before the worship service; that will allow you to be greeted at the front door, an opportunity to stop by our information desk (Welcome Center) for additional information you may need as you discover that West Side is a place where you can belong.


How big is your church?
We are a multigenerational, multiethnic, racially mixed congregation which has approximately 500 resident members.


How old is your church?
West Side Presbyterian Church began as the West Seattle Branch Mission of First Presbyterian Church, Seattle in 1907. The West Side Presbyterian Church was chartered in March 1911.


When are your worship services?
Sunday mornings at 10:00am
Sunday evenings at 5:00pm

Childcare is available for both services.


What is the preaching and music like?
Our service is traditional services with a choir, piano, and organ where we sing hymns together.


What are the church office hours?
Tuesday–Friday: 9:00am–4:30pm


What time is your Sunday School and Adult Classes?
Sunday School for children/youth — beginning with children as young as 3 years old and up through high school seniors — is offered at 9:00am. We offer adult classes at 9:00am. Periodically, we also offer a Sunday evening or midweek class.

During the summer months we have the opportunity on Sunday mornings to hear from many of the missionaries that we support.


How do I get to West Side Presbyterian of West Seattle?
West Side Presbyterian is conveniently located on California Avenue at the cross street of Spokane Street. It is midway between the Admiral Junction and the Alaska Junction.  Click for map & directions.


Where should I park?
West Side has very limited onsite parking with 10 stalls in the alley behind the church which includes two handicap spots; three handicap parking spots on California Avenue on Sunday mornings (during the week there is one spot); and Sunday mornings the three lots at Swedish Medical Center across California Avenue are available to us. There is parking under the building at the north end, parking under the building off California Avenue plus the two outside lots.


Will I be welcome at West Side?
We welcome Anyone, from Any walk of life and in Any stage of life to join our fellowship. Yes, that means you!!


Will I have to stand up in front of people?
Guests are never called upon or pointed out, so don’t worry about being embarrassed. We understand what it is like to be in a new church! So while the people at West Side are genuinely interested in getting to know you and want to make you feel welcome, we will never call on you or embarrass you in any way. You can relax and enjoy meeting people at your own pace. Those parts of the service that you may not be familiar with are explained each Sunday morning, so you don’t need to be concerned about not knowing when to sit, pray, stand, or what to do next.

What if I have a prayer request?
There are three convenient ways to get your Prayer Request covered in prayer.

  • Call the church office to have your prayer request placed on our Prayer Chain.
  • Fill out the Prayer request on the yellow “Prayer Request Form” in the pew rack on Sunday.
  • Email your prayer request to Please specify whether your prayer request is for Staff Only or for the Prayer Chain.  All Prayer Chain requests must have the person’s permission for whom you are requesting prayer.

Who should I contact to have my child baptized or dedicated?
Contact the Pastor’s Secretary, Madeline May, and she will be happy to answer your questions and set up an appointment to meet with our Pastor.


Do you have a Nursery for my baby or preschooler?
We have a wonderful staff of people who are here to serve you and provide wonderful care for your baby so that you may enjoy the service without distraction or diversion. Toys and equipment are disinfected on a weekly basis and your children are cared for by people who have a passion for babies.


Where will my children go during the service?
Your children will love West Side! Children birth through 3 years old are invited to our safe and cozy nursery. We provide fun, hands-on Bible lessons and activities every Sunday morning designed especially to help children kindergarten and up learn the truths of the Bible. During our 10:00 service children preschool through 2nd grade begin the service in our Children’s Churchtime Program. Children are brought to the sanctuary after the sermon for a Children’s Sermon and then they join their families in the pews. Our children’s ministry leaders are adults just like you who value every child and treat them with the utmost care and attention. Special bulletins for children are available that include the order of worship as well as Bible puzzles.

One of the greatest concerns of young parents in looking for a church is quality of childcare. We understand this concern and have done everything possible to calm your parental fears. We can promise a fun, loving environment that helps your children feel church is a happy place where they are loved.


What should I wear to church?
Anything you like. We’re more concerned with meeting your real life needs than what you wear. Dress usually ranges from blue jeans to business suits and ties – all are welcome!


Why do newcomers make West Side their church home?
Based on their feedback, it is clear that newcomers experience West Side as a safe place to be. Preaching and teaching are Biblical and balanced, leaders are not overbearing but committed to serve, children are well cared for, and everyone feels the openness, comfort and encouragement of a caring Christian fellowship. Most newcomers find that friends are easily made.

Do I have to be a member to participate?
At West Side you do not have to be a member to participate in any area of worship or a Bible study group! We offer many events and opportunities to the community and encourage participation by all members and non-members. Membership is important though and we offer sessions that allow people interested in connecting with West Side in more significant ways to get plugged in.
