A Little History

West Side traces its beginnings to 1907 as a mission outpost of First Presbyterian Church in Downtown Seattle. Mission has been a part of our DNA from the beginning, along with a love of God's Word in the Bible and a commitment to children and youth. For generations women and men in this church family have witnessed God's faithfulness.

Over a century later, we know that this kind of stability is a gift, especially in times of uncertainty, isolation, or transition. We've discovered that no matter what, Jesus is the "Yes!" to every promise that God has ever made -- and those promises include you. We want you to know the comfort and challenge of God's grace in your life.

Every Family has a love language... Here is ours.

Love for the gospel

We are committed to remaining humble, kind and connected as we live out the good news of Jesus in a cultural context that can be proud, loud and polarized.

Love for God’s voice in His Word

We believe that God, fully revealed in Jesus, speaks through the Bible. We're committed to listening, with a deep devotion to engaging life's tough questions with scriptural fidelity and curiosity.

Love for one another

At West Side we are all about community -- moving from strangers to friends, from friends to family. We also believe that God’s family is multiethnic and we are committed to extending our family relationships to reflect the beautiful diversity of West Seattle.

Love for every generation

West Side has a legacy of investing in every generation. We prioritize relationships and value being an intergenerational congregation.

Love for our neighbors in West Seattle

Most of our congregation lives in West Seattle. Our Bless Big Local initiative challenges members to generosity of money and time invested with local mission partners that are seeking the peace of our city.

Love for our global neighbors

Partnership with global Missionaries and our Bless Big Global initiative has extends the legacy of mission that we received over a century ago.

What We Believe

We believe Jesus Christ, God’s true and only son, loved and rescued us from our sin by his own death and resurrection. Because of that, he should be at the center of our lives, and inform all that we do.

West Side is part of a network of churches in the Presbyterian tradition. Click here to explore convictions held in common with other Fellowship Community of Presbyterians congregations, and here to explore the confessions that we hold in common with other Presbyterian USA churches. The values held in common with other Fellowship churches are:

We believe Jesus Christ must be at the center of our lives and making disciples of Jesus at the core of our ministry.

We believe the Bible is the unique and authoritative Word of God, which teaches all that is necessary for faith and life. The prominence of God’s Word over our lives shapes our priorities, and the unrivaled authority of the Bible directs our actions to be in concert with Christ’s very best for our lives.

We believe in theological education, constant learning, and the life of the mind, and celebrate this as one of the treasures of our Reformed heritage.

We believe guidance is a corporate spiritual experience. We want to connect leaders to one another in healthy relationships of accountability, synergy, and care.

We believe in unleashing the ministry gifts of women, men, and every ethnic group.

We believe in living out the whole of the Great Commission – including evangelism, spiritual formation, compassion, and redemptive justice – in our communities and around the world.

We believe in calling people to the core of what it means to be followers of Jesus – what “mere Christianity” is and does – and not fixate on the boundaries.

We believe identifying and developing gospel-centered leaders is critical for the church, and a great leadership culture is risk-taking, innovative, and organic.
