West Side Youth

Learning to Love God and Lead People.

Whoever you are, wherever you're from, you are welcome here.

Here at West Side, we desire to be witnesses to our world of the redemptive, transformative truth of the gospel. This mission begins with our youth. To that end, West Side Youth seeks to be a ministry that raises up students to be the next generation of leaders who love Jesus Christ and desire to serve Him and His church. This does not happen overnight. Each and every one of the activities we do – the retreats, mission trips, conferences, service opportunities, small groups, and Bible studies – are intended to grow our youth’s passion for God, His Word, and serving His people. Come and join us in this powerful and welcoming community!

There is always something happening with West Side Youth! Whether it’s 9-Square, bowling, Lock-Ins, movies, corn mazes, The Amazing Race, etc., you don’t want to miss out on the action. Check out our calendar for what’s next!

Ask, Seek, Knock

“Ask and it will be given to you;
seek and you will find;
knock and the door will be opened to you.
For everyone who asks receives;
the one who seeks finds;
and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened."

-Matthew 7:7-8

In the month of September, we will focus on "Ask" and dive into who God is and what and how to ask Him. In October we will focus on "Seek" and dive into who Jesus is and why it matters to us today. In November we will focus on "Knock" and inviting the holy spirit into our lives, seeing the bible as the living word, and the transformation that can happen.

Youth Leadership Team

The purposes of YLT are to give high school students the opportunity to:
  • Develop skills as a Christian leader
  • Utilize their talents as leaders in West Side Youth Ministry programs and activities
  • Be part of an intentional community of students who are serious about faith in Jesus Christ and living their faith in all areas of their lives

YLT students lead our youth ministry in spiritual growth, commitment to service and involvement in activities. YLT students take seriously the importance and responsibility of leadership. Committing to YLT is more than just attending the monthly gatherings; it is committing and contributing to West Side Youth Ministry by participating in events, serving others and working to be a Christ-Centered student.

Our first meeting will be September 22, following Youth Group.

Student Worship Team: CATALYST

Join our student worship team – CATALYST under the direction of Sean McMonigle. Beyond rehearsing, having a blast playing music together and leading worship on Sunday evenings, the team will be learning about what true worship is in the eyes of the Father. The worship team will be in essence a discipleship group (dGroup) growing together as they explore the book “Pure Praise (Revised): A Heart-Focused Bible Study on Worship.”

When Sean was asked about the name Catalyst, he said he chose it “because that’s how I see music in the realm of worship. For people like myself who love music and are wired that way, music is a major catalyst in how I worship. But it is not worship in its own right.”

Isaiah 25:1 is the team’s theme verse: “Lord, you are my God; I will exalt you and praise your name.”

Confirmation

Confirmation class is offered for middle school & high school students who are interested in taking their faith further. During this class, students will learn and practice using the language of the faith and see that Jesus calls them to a purpose that is bigger than themselves. The class covers the Biblical narrative, Christian theology, Presbyterian Polity, and what it means to be The Church.

Youth Missions

“What you’ll get is the Holy Spirit. And when the Holy Spirit comes on you, you will be able to be my witnesses in Jerusalem, all over Judea and Samaria, even to the ends of the world.”

Acts 1:8

West Side Youth Ministry believes mission experiences are an important part of faith development, and we strive to give students a variety of opportunities to serve during their years in the youth program. We rotate our mission experiences every three years: an evangelism training conference, a domestic trip, and a cross-cultural experience.
