Learning to Love God and Lead People.

Whoever you are, wherever you're from, you are welcome here.

Here at West Side, we desire to be witnesses to our world of the redemptive, transformative truth of the gospel. This mission begins with our youth. To that end, West Side Youth seeks to be a ministry that raises up students to be the next generation of leaders who love Jesus Christ and desire to serve Him and His church. This does not happen overnight. Each and every one of the activities we do – the retreats, mission trips, conferences, service opportunities, small groups, and Bible studies – are intended to grow our youth’s passion for God, His Word, and serving His people. Come and join us in this powerful and welcoming community!

There is always something happening with West Side Youth! Whether it’s 9-Square, bowling, Lock-Ins, movies, corn mazes, The Amazing Race, etc., you don’t want to miss out on the action. Check out our calendar for what’s next!

Morning Worship

We encourage both middle and high school students to worship with their families on Sundays in either of our morning services. Often students will choose to sit together during worship as well.

Sunday School

Sunday School is an awesome place for students to ask questions and grow in their faith by connecting with God and others. Students are invited to join with adults on Sunday mornings at 9:50pm in Howell Auditorium.

Sunday Evenings

Youth Groups (MS Huddle and HS Impact) meet at West Side on Sunday nights. We will start the night gathering together in the Chapel for our worship which includes singing and large group teaching time. We will then break into small groups to discuss each week’s lesson. The last hour we will join back together for games.

We love to have students serve in many capacities. Children’s Ministry, Hospitality, Greeters, Ushers and more! Contact Stacy or Madeline for more information.

Youth Leadership Team

The purposes of YLT are to give high school students the opportunity to:
  • Develop skills as a Christian leader
  • Utilize their talents as leaders in West Side Youth Ministry programs and activities
  • Be part of an intentional community of students who are serious about faith in Jesus Christ and living their faith in all areas of their lives

YLT students lead our youth ministry in spiritual growth, commitment to service and involvement in activities. YLT students take seriously the importance and responsibility of leadership. Committing to YLT is more than just attending the monthly gatherings; it is committing and contributing to West Side Youth Ministry by participating in events, serving others and working to be a Christ-Centered student.

Belong. Be loved. Grow.

West Side’s D-Groups (Discipleship Groups) provide an opportunity for students to meet in small groups and
  • experience the love of Christ;
  • live in community with one another, and
  • grow in their relationship with God.
Each D-Group consists of a young adult leader and three high school students.

Student Worship Team: CATALYST

Join our student worship team – CATALYST under the direction of Sean McMonigle. Beyond rehearsing, having a blast playing music together and leading worship on Sunday evenings, the team will be learning about what true worship is in the eyes of the Father. The worship team will be in essence a discipleship group (dGroup) growing together as they explore the book “Pure Praise (Revised): A Heart-Focused Bible Study on Worship.”

When Sean was asked about the name Catalyst, he said he chose it “because that’s how I see music in the realm of worship. For people like myself who love music and are wired that way, music is a major catalyst in how I worship. But it is not worship in its own right.”

Isaiah 25:1 is the team’s theme verse: “Lord, you are my God; I will exalt you and praise your name.”
Please contact Sean (206-450-0989) or Stacy for more information.

West Side Youth offers Confirmation every other year - our next class will begin the fall of 2020.
October through April, a confirmation class is offered for middle school & high school students who are interested in taking their faith further. During this class, students will learn and practice using the language of the faith and see that Jesus calls them to a purpose that is bigger than themselves. The class will cover the Biblical narrative, Christian theology, Presbyterian Polity, and what it means to be The Church.

Annual Retreats

Winter Retreat

February 2021

Every Winter, West Side joins other churches for an incredible weekend of games, worship and fellowship with one another. Each night we gather to worship together and have an opportunity to hear from a local speaker who will spend the weekend opening God’s word and challenging our students in the faith.

Memorial Day Retreat

With the Stay Home, Stay Healthy order through at least the end of May, the 2020 Memorial Day Retreat has been canceled.

For more than 30 years, West Side has been hosting a 3 day retreat for 6-12th grade students across Memorial Day wWeekend. Of all the things we do, MDR is a yearly favorite for students. This outreach retreat is a place for students to invite friends for an amazing weekend of dynamic speakers, great bands, hilariously fun activities and deep conversation. It’s a weekend with lasting impact!

Lake Chelan Retreat

July 23-26, 2020

Each summer middle and high school kids head to Lake Chelan for 4 days and 3 nights of fun on the water. Inner-tubing, swimming, delicious food, and great speakers make this retreat fill up quickly!

Youth Missions

“What you’ll get is the Holy Spirit. And when the Holy Spirit comes on you, you will be able to be my witnesses in Jerusalem, all over Judea and Samaria, even to the ends of the world.”

Acts 1:8

West Side Youth Ministry believes mission experiences are an important part of faith development, and we strive to give students a variety of opportunities to serve during their years in the youth program. We rotate our mission experiences every three years: an evangelism training conference, a domestic trip, and a cross-cultural experience.

 West Side Youth Missions

Dominican Republic | Summer 2020

This summer, West Side Youth will be going to the Dominican Republic. During our two-week trip, we will be living and working in the town of Caraballo, a poor, mostly Haitian community located in the sugarcane fields on the north coast of the DR. This community is truly the poorest of the poor in the DR. In this impoverished setting Kids Alive is working to meet the needs of children who are growing up with very few opportunities.

Our team of 22 (18 students and 4 adults) will be working with Kids Alive International doing primarily construction on the school, which has become too small for the children it serves. Opportunities to interact with the children during the summer program and in the Barrios (neighborhoods) will also be part of our experience. This will be the eighth West Side trip to DR to work with Kids Alive and alongside West Side supported missionaries and former members, Vic & Leslie Trautwein. Our trip will conclude with a quick visit to the coastal town of Puerto Plata.

West Side Youth Serve

Date Night with a Purpose

Students join with adults to play and entertain children and give parents a night out! Each month, couples are given the opportunity to go out on a date with thought-provoking questions to discuss. Meanwhile, kids enjoy a safe and fun evening at West Side.

A great opportunity to serve!  Last summer, West Side joined with Bethany Community Church to help clean, paint, landscape and beatify Highland Park Elementary School. Mark your calendar to join the crew this year August 15, 2020.

Vacation Bible School

High School and Middle School students are critical to the success of our Summer kids Vacation Bible School They help lead children games, worship, crafts and conversation. Friendships are formed between older and younger kids, and in the midst of song, fun and laughter, everyone learns more about how much they are loved by God.
