Service Opportunities

Martin Luther King Day Seattle: Do something good

The legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is one of community service and volunteering, and the holiday often features some large work parties and volunteer opportunities.

MLK Day of Service – Seattle/King County

Honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy by being in service with the greater City Year community.
City Year Seattle/King County honors the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by serving in community at one of our partner schools. This year on Monday, January 15, 2024, our day of service will bring together alumni, donors, community members, and corporate partners as we revitalize Denny International Middle School. Volunteers will have the opportunity to paint murals, improve campus landscaping, clean, and organize the school for students, faculty, and staff. We believe MLK Day is a “day on”, so come join us as we support the students of Denny International Middle School through service.

Tentative projects:
Murals
There will be numerous murals to paint during MLK Service Day, and that is why we are needing an estimated 110 volunteers for this project. Murals are a source of creativity and inspiration for the students of Denny Int. Middle School. Each day various students will see the work that the community has done together in order to beautify their school.

Canvas Paintings
Canvas paintings are a great way to serve the school as well. This is great for all ages and we are needing an estimated 40 volunteers to complete this service project!

Outdoor Landscaping.
Revitalizing Denny Int. Middle School also means beautifying the outdoor landscaping. We are needing an estimated 40 volunteers to complete this project!

This event is free for all attendees, with a suggested donation of $25 per registrant. Please wear closed toe shoes and come in clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty or stained.Register now!
